Letter from the Editor
We live in an electronic world.
I woke up this morning to the beeping alarm on my digital watch. I listened to my iPod while working out down at Lake Hodges. I read the morning paper on my PowerBook while sipping my coffee at the kitchen table. While reading the “newspaper” (even though there was no “paper” involved) I had a couple of instant-message conversations with friends and family across the nation. Then I headed upstairs to my office, read and responded to the many e-mails that came in overnight. While e-mailing, a fax came in – but to my e-mail, since I don’t have a fax machine anymore. (Fax is SO ’90’s!) Now I’m typing this into Word on my desktop Mac. I’ll e-mail it to the interlínc office in Tennessee and it will get posted to interlínc’s website.
Which is where you are right now.
Yup. Our world is changing. Electronic communication has totally transformed how you and I do our jobs. We use our computers to create our calendars, flyers, presentation graphics and Bible studies. We use our computers and phones to communicate with far-flung friends and family. Instant Messaging has replaced the telephone for many teenagers. Video or audio conferencing via computer is a daily experience. Sharing pictures, videos, documents, and comments is no longer a novelty. Being instantly available is expected in today’s world.
Thus, this “electronic” issue of interlínc’s MVL.
interlinc is responding to the changes in how youth ministers work. By making more and more resources available electronically, interlínc is recognizing that youth leaders are more technologically “wired” than ever before.
Don’t worry; interlínc is not going to stop printing the MVL and YLO magazines. The “paperless office” is still far in the future, if it ever arrives at all. But with this issue of MVL 48 interlínc wanted to get the transformation process started.
With this electronic version of MVL, you have the opportunity to personalize these materials for your own situation. Drop in your ministry logo, or copy/paste text into your standard handout forms. Rework the material to suit your needs as your skills and time allow!
As always, let us know how this resource works for you. You may use our Contact Form to send us an electronic message. Or, you can use the old school method: call 800-725-3300.
God bless!
