interlinc staffer Scott Osterbind caught up with new artist Cory Lamb for this exclusive YLO interview
How did growing up in a close family in Arkansas help you build your foundation musically?
Cory: They always gave me encouragement and told me to never give up on my dream. They were completely honest with me and that element gave me the strength I needed to pursue my music career.
You were in a band at the younger age of 16. How was that experience and when did you eventually decide to become a solo artist?
Cory: Being a part of that band was awesome, I loved every second of it. The experience gave me the confidence that I needed to perform and confirmed how much I loved being on stage and in a band.
Your new album is titled Break The Cycle. How does that title play an important role in your life?
Cory: I believe that the world is becoming darker and darker. I feel we need to change things to make it a brighter place. By "breaking the cycle" of how things are now, we can do just that
I understand you had the opportunity to work with Stephen Baldwin on your music video for the single "Break The Cycle". How did your two worlds come together?
Cory: Yes he did direct my video for "Break The Cycle". Stephen and I connected through a mutual colleague. he knew Stephen wanted to direct videos so he jumped on the opportunity to direct my music video. When Stephen heard the song, he delivered a treatment for the video with his vision of the song which I really liked, so we moved forward.
Beyond the success of your music, you have a strong desire to reach kids outside of the church. How have you been able to live out this calling in your career?
Cory: Since it's early in my career and my touring, I feel I have just scratched the surface. It will take years of connecting with my audience in order to truly reach this goal I set for myself.
