The Jonas Brothers & Youth Ministry
By Allen Weed
By Allen Weed President, interlinc

Spring 2006 -- Father-manager and three sons of a little-known family band visit the interlinc office. We had made their song “Time For Me To Fly” the theme of our graduation gift ConGRADulations! Class of 2006. They wanted to come see what the interlinc ministry was all about. Fantastic time talking about the Lord, the importance of youth ministry, and how music can be a help to youthworkers in ministering to kids. I was particularly impressed with the father’s reaction to the youth ministry resources we had built around the songs on their mildly successful first CD. Some of our staff maintain contact.

(Fast Forward) Fall 2009 -- Two weeks ago I spent time before the concert with the same father and boys at their Nashville concert. Times had changed dramatically.. 16 tractor trailers carrying the gear, 15 buses transporting 120 band and crew....and a sold out Sommet Center with 18K+ screaming teenagers (and parents). This was one stop on a tour that drew over 1 million kids. The Jonas Brothers had become one of the largest groups in the pop music scene.

A lot has changed...but one thing has not. Dad, mom (who were both on the tour) and the boys are still solidly committed to honoring Christ with the “unreal” celebrity platform that they now enjoy. Before the boys went on, Kevin Sr. pulled everyone together with the call “It’s time to circle up for prayer.” More than 75 joined as he asked the Lord to use the boys’ music to honor Himself.

We have been discussing with Kevin Sr. how to connect the boys with you – youthworkers ministering to high school kids. That is why we will be sending you more from them – their music, their videos, their heart from Dad, Mom and the boys. They know that they need the Body of Christ if this time is to be eternally fruitful. We will be exploring what that means together with them!

A couple requests: Please pray for and ask your kids to pray for the Jonas Brothers that each of the boys may stay solid in his walk with Christ. Please also pray that kids will hear their music and ask “What makes these guys tick?” and that this will be an open door for the sharing of the Good News about Christ.

I have included a couple pics from the time in our office and from the concert here in Nashville.

If you have any questions or ideas about this, please don’t hesitate to email me at allenweed@interlinc-online.com.
