America’s Most Creative Youth Pastor: A Conversation with Steve Taylor

Steve Taylor has been playing a major role in shaping popular art by Christians for over 30 years. As a solo artist in the ’80s writing biting satirical New Wave songs with videos that aired on MTV (unheard of at the time), to providing the soundtrack of ’90s youth ministry by penning many of the Newsboys biggest hits, producing the worldwide ubiquitous hit “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer and, most recently, directing the film version of Donald Miller’s influential 21st century memoir “Blue Like Jazz.”

Never content to rest upon his numerous laurels, Steve Taylor recently embarked on a tour with his band The Perfect Foil (pictured) in support of his first full album in 20 years, “Goliath.” Thankfully, the former youth minister carved some time from his hectic schedule to talk pop culture, youth ministry and media.
